The content of the English platform is organised in a way that offers both structured learning as well as individual, interest-based lessons.
We are launching the platform with Module 1. That means there is enough content for one month – one unit for each week. New content will be added on a weekly basis.

In this unit you will read an extract from Liar’s Poker, a funny novel by Michael Lewis about his experience of working as an investment banker. You will also learn to recognize jokes and exaggerations in the text.
In this unit you will practise your listening skills by listening to a banker speaking about retail banking. You will also learn and practise the vocabulary of retail services.
In this unit you can revise the vocabulary and expressions you have learnt in Module 2.
This module deals with the retail services of mortgages, personal loans and overdrafts.
You will learn all the essential vocabulary to talk about this topic as well some useful translations and study tips.
The pronunciation tips in this module focus on the typical mistakes people make when talking about loans and mortgages.
You will also listen to two conversations about solutions to cash flow problems.
In this unit you will learn and practise essential vocabulary of mortgages. You will also find useful study and pronunciation tips. Have you ever wondered how to say “list vlastníctva” or “kataster”? In this unit, you will practise your listening comprehension by listening to two retail bankers trying to find a solution for a client with cash flow problems.
This unit will take you through the basic process of a loan application, covering all the essential vocabulary.
In this unit you can revise the vocabulary and expressions you have learnt in Module 3.

In this module, we will talk about the roles and functions of central and national banks. The banking sector is regulated and we will briefly look at how and why it is so. In the unit about economic change, you will learn how to describe trends and report on graphs.
This module is focused on reading and vocabulary but you will also learn and practise a few grammar points typically used in this context.
In this unit, you will read about the roles of central and national banks, what they do and why it’s important for the economy. You will learn how gerunds are used to talk about activities and there is a useful study tip for you how to make your self-study more communicative.
Unit 2 deals with banking regulations. You will practise your reading comprehension by matching headlines with article extracts and analysing the vocabulary. You will also learn how relative clauses are used to define and explain things. As with Unit 1, the study tip in this unit will offer techniques how to work with the worksheet more effectively.
When we speak about economic change, we mostly describe how things are going and compare them with past developments and our expectations. To do so in English, we need some specific vocabulary and a little bit of grammar. You will find all of this in this unit plus a practical comparison of English and Slovak in this context.

This module is a little more technical as we will be looking at the key vocabulary of financial statements and accounting. In Unit 1 you will learn the essential vocabulary to talk about accounting. In Unit 2 and 3 we will take a closer look at the Balance sheet and the Income statement respectively and, as usual, Unit 4 is all about revision.
In this unit, you are going to listen to Eric Sharp, a financial director, talking about accounting. He will speak about the financial statements companies usually include in their Annual Reports and why they are important.
In this unit you are going to practise your figures! You will listen to a journalist describing the consolidated balance sheet of Barclays bank.
In this unit we are going to take a closer look at the structure and key vocabulary of income statements.
In this unit you can revise the vocabulary and expressions you have learnt in Module 5.
So far, we have looked at different areas of banking and finance and now it’s time for corporate banking! What services do banks provide to companies? How can they help struggling business and why do they do it? Find out in this module.
Unit 1 is focused on the essential vocabulary of corporate banking, mainly on the services banks provide to corporate clients.
In this unit you are going to read about the difference between credit lines, corporate loans and leasing agreements. You are also going to listen to a conversation between a corporate banker and his client and find out what use the client has for these services.
In Unit 3 we will look at companies in financial problems and how their banks can help them find a suitable solution. You will learn essential vocabulary for this topic and practise your listening skills.
In this unit you can revise the vocabulary and expressions you have learnt in Module 6.
Now you can look back and revise what you have learnt in Modules 4 – 6.
